To set up your engine follow the order of the items listed below. This will configure the input, output and hardware calibration needed to run the engine. Clicking each item (M1 Tune v1.5 only) will select the item and allow you to enter the required information. Once an item has been selected the help, for that item, can be displayed by hitting the F1 key. Ensure that each sub item is also configured. When finished, the engine should start up with the default settings.
Engine Details
- Engine Displacement
- Engine Cylinders
- Engine Run Threshold
- Engine Cylinder 1 Bank up to Engine Cylinder 8 Bank (as required)
- Engine Cylinder 2 Top Dead Centre up to Engine Cylinder 8 Top Dead Centre (as required)
- Engine Efficiency Mode
- Engine Load Normalised Mode
- Engine Load Average Time Constant
- Fuel Properties Calibration
- Inlet Manifold Pressure Mode
- Inlet Manifold Pressure Estimate Mode, Inlet Manifold Pressure Estimate Filter and Inlet Manifold Pressure Estimate Main. These are also used as fallbacks if the Inlet Manifold Pressure Sensor reports a fault.
Ref & Sync
- Engine Speed Reference
- Engine Speed Pin
- Either
- Engine Synchronisation
- Inlet Camshaft Bank 1, Inlet Camshaft Bank 2, Exhaust Camshaft Bank 1 and/or Exhaust Camshaft Bank 2 for engines fitted with Variable Valve Timing.
Engine Speed Reference Offset (CRIP) can be confirmed by setting Ignition Test to Check Timing and then using Ignition Test Timing and a timing light. While cranking ensure that Engine Speed Reference State goes to Cycle Lock before continuing.
Critical Sensors (Required for Efficiency Model)
- Coolant Temperature Sensor. Coolant Temperature Estimate should also be configured as this is used as a fallback if the sensor reports a fault.
- Inlet Air Temperature Sensor. Inlet Air Temperature Sensor Default should also be configured as this is used as a fallback if the sensor reports a fault.
- Inlet Manifold Pressure Sensor. Inlet Manifold Pressure Estimate Mode, Inlet Manifold Pressure Estimate Filter and Inlet Manifold Pressure Estimate Main should also be configured as they are used as a fallbacks if the sensor reports a fault.
- Throttle Position Sensor (cable operated throttle)
- Throttle Pedal Sensor (Drive By Wire)
Sensors Optional (Improves Efficiency Model)
- Airbox Pressure Sensor
- Ambient Pressure Sensor. If no sensor then Ambient Pressure Estimate and Ambient Pressure Default should be configured. These are used as fallbacks if the sensor reports a fault.
- Fuel Temperature Sensor. If no sensor then Fuel Temperature Estimate should be configured. This is used as a fallback if the sensor reports a fault.
- Fuel Pressure Sensor. If no sensor then Fuel Pressure Default, Fuel Pressure Regulator Type and Fuel Pressure Regulator Ratio should be used. These are used as fallbacks if the sensor reports a fault.
Sensors Other
- Boost Pressure Sensor
- Coolant Pressure Sensor
- Engine Crankcase Pressure Sensor
- Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
- Engine Oil Pressure Low Switch
- Engine Oil Temperature Sensor
- Others can be found by searching for 'sensor'.
Ignition Configuration
- Ignition Cylinder 1 Resource up to Ignition Cylinder 8 Resource (as required)
- Ignition Coil
- Ignition Driver
- Ignition Restrike
Once configured the ignition can be tested by setting Engine Output Test to Ignition and then using Engine Output Test Cylinder and Engine Output Test Engine Speed to check each ignition resource.
Fuel Injectors
- Fuel Cylinder 1 Primary Output Resource up to Fuel Cylinder 8 Primary Output Resource (as required)
- Fuel Cylinder 1 Secondary Output Resource up to Fuel Cylinder 8 Secondary Output Resource (as required)
- Fuel Injector Primary
- Fuel Injector Secondary
Once configured the injectors can then be tested by setting Engine Output Test to Fuel Primary or Fuel Secondary and then using Engine Output Test Cylinder and Engine Output Test Engine Speed to check each fuel resource.
Engine Outputs
- Coolant Pump
- Coolant Fan 1
- Coolant Fan 2
- ECU Power Relay
- Fuel Pump
- Fuel Pump 2
- Fuel Pump 3
- Fuel Pressure Control
- Warning Light
Engine Speed Limits
- Engine Speed Limit
- Coolant Temperature Engine Speed Limit
- Engine Oil Temperature Engine Speed Limit
- Engine Load Average Engine Speed Limit
- All other Engine Speed Limits can be configured by searching for 'Engine Speed Limit'. Any limits that are not required should be set to a value much higher than Engine Speed Limit Maximum.
Throttle Servo (DBW engines only)
- Throttle Pedal Sensor
- Throttle Pedal Translation
- Throttle Servo Bank 1
- Throttle Servo Bank 2
- All Throttle Limits can be configured by searching for 'Throttle Limit'. Any limits that are not required should be set to 100%.
See Checklist Throttle Servo Setup for more information.
Engine start can be attempted from this point onwards.
Lambda
- Configure the CAN Bus 1 Mode that is connected to the sensor LTC.
- LTC
- Exhaust Lambda Collector; measures lambda at a location where the exhaust pipes for all cylinders have merged.
- Exhaust Lambda Bank 1; measures lambda at a location where the exhaust pipes for all cylinders on bank 1 have merged.
- Exhaust Lambda Bank 2; measures lambda at a location where the exhaust pipes for all cylinders on bank 2 have merged.
- Exhaust Lambda Cylinder 1 up to Exhaust Lambda Cylinder 8 (as required); measures lambda for a given cylinder only.
The Throttle Servo can then be tested by setting Throttle Test to Enabled and then using Throttle Test Closed, Throttle Test Open, Throttle Test Period and Throttle Test aim to check the throttle actuation.
Boost Actuator (Boosted engines only)
- Boost
- All Boost Limits can be configured by searching for 'Boost Limit'. Any limits that are not required should be set to 100%.
Camshaft Control (VVT engines only)
- Inlet Camshaft Bank 1
- Inlet Camshaft Bank 2
- Exhaust Camshaft Bank 1
- Exhaust Camshaft Bank 2
Logging
- Logging Delay
- Logging Throttle Pedal
- Logging Engine Speed
