This guide shows the recommend method to configure the Boost control system. Clicking each item (M1 Tune v1.5 only) will select the item and allow you to enter the required information. Once an item has been selected the help, for that item, can be displayed by hitting the F1 key.
This system controls operation of a single turbocharger wastegate solenoid.
Boost pressure refers to the pressure above ambient at which the system is operating. In other words, gauge pressure.
Boost pressure is sensed either by a dedicated pressure sensor or derived from the manifold pressure sensor. The wastegate is driven by the pulse width modulated actuator outputs. The output duty cycle is calculated in the using PID with feed forward. Boost Actuator Inverting is fed the inverse duty cycle to Boost Actuator Normal.
The Boost Aim Main table supplies the target boost value, which may be over-ridden by other systems like Anti Lag or Launch, or modified by the Boost Limit system. Boost Aim State reports which system is supplying the current boost aim value.
Boost Limit State reports which system has requested a boost limit. Settings for individual boost limits reside within those systems, for example Coolant Temperature Boost Limit.
All boost limits should be set to 100% unless required.
Boost limit values are a percentage of the range between Boost Activate and Boost Aim Main. For example if Boost Activate is 20kPa and Boost Aim Main is 120kPa, a boost limit of 50% will result in an aim value 50% between 20 and 120kPa, which is 70kPa.
Boost Margin defines the range above or below Boost Aim Main where PID control operates.
- If Boost Control Diagnostic is Over Margin, minimum control is applied.
- If Boost Control Diagnostic is Under Margin, maximum control is applied.
The following conditions must be met for boost control to activate:
- Boost Pressure must be greater than Boost Activate.
- (Inlet Manifold Pressure - Ambient Pressure) must be less than Boost Maximum.
- Boost Pressure must be within the range (Boost Aim - Boost Margin) to (Boost Aim + Boost Margin).
- Boost Actuator Minimum and Boost Actuator Maximum must be set.
- Boost Actuator Frequency must be set.
- One of Boost Pressure Sensor or Boost Inlet Manifold Pressure Sensor must be operational.
