This guide shows the recommend method to configure the Gear Shift system. Clicking each item (M1 Tune v1.5 only) will select the item and allow you to enter the required information. Once an item has been selected the help, for that item, can be displayed by hitting the F1 key.
Final result of the gear shift requests.
Gear shifts will only be processed when Gear Shift Mode is Enabled and Driver Gear Shift Switch is On or has no resource assigned (Driver Gear Shift Switch Index is Not in Use).
A gear shift request can only become effective from Gear Shift being Idle.
Gear Shift will become Up when all of the following conditions are fulfilled:
- Gear Lever becomes Up
- the current Gear is not Gear Maximum
- Engine Speed is greater than Gear Shift Engine Speed Minimum
Gear Shift will become Down when all of the following conditions are fulfilled:
- Gear Lever becomes Down
- the current Gear is not Gear Minimum
- Engine Speed is greater than Gear Shift Engine Speed Minimum
- Engine Speed is smaller than Gear Shift Down Engine Speed, which defines the maximum engine speed for each gear and is used to prevent over-revving on down shifts
- The expected engine speed after the downshift, which is Engine Speed * Gear Ratio Down / Gear Ratio, is smaller than Engine Speed Limit Nominal
In both cases the debounce time Gear Shift Debounce must not be active.
Gear Shift Type is determined based on the throttle position at the moment the gear shift is requested.
The Gear Shift system assumes engine control during gear shifts by means of ignition cut, ignition advance limiting, fuel cut, engine speed limiting and electronic throttle control. Their timing depends on the calibration of Gear Shift Timing based on the different states of operation which are reported by Gear Shift State (see the help on Gear Shift State for more information).
